I suffer from really bad headaches, which in recent years were diagnosed as migraines. My gran had suspicions for a long time that they were migraines, but my parents didn’t listen to either of us. There would be days where I was in too much pain to leave my bed and I was extremely light-sensitive. I’m surprised my parents weren’t suspicious when I’d go days without reading or writing on the computer that something was wrong.
One day I asked my gran, a retired physician, if she had anything that would help since no headache medication worked. She said all her medical notes & journals lived in the attic and I was free to look for something in them. Hopeful, I climbed into the small crawl space-sized attic, shoving away boxes of Christmas decorations and old antique lights. I was quickly able to find a box labeled “Medical” and inside wasn’t much, but in her notes about migraines a yellowed paper fell out. It was an old tea recipe (my gran took a while to remember where she got it from) from an ancestor who was a convicted witch at the Salem witch trials. I was eager to try this recipe; I already loved tea, making a cup every night while reading before bed. The next day I begged (annoyed) my mom to get me the herbs I needed. It was easy, and about eight out of ten times it's worked in helping my headaches. |
