A Hot Meal After The Longest Day Is Always The Best
The snow falls gently on the ground as I drive home from work. I love the winter, but it’s been a long day and I haven’t had any food.
Finally I arrive at my house. It’s a duplex, but each side is pretty big, so it’s not like we’re in a small space. I take off my jacket and work pants and walk upstairs from the basement. I had to stay a bit later than I normally do on night shifts, so it’s around ten thirty at night. I look to the freezer for food but nothing catches my eye. That is, until I see the bag I always love to see. A bag of frozen tortellini. It only takes about twenty minutes, but it tastes amazing every time, and it always makes me feel better after a long day. I put the water into an unnecessarily large pot and put it on the stove. While that’s heating up I also start my kettle to fuel my copious addiction to hot chocolate.
The Water finally comes to a boil. I portion out a bowl of pasta and throw it in, it sizzles loudly as it spills into the water. Thankfully, my hot chocolate is done, so I drink that as I wait for the pasta to cook. It’s late, and I really want to go to bed, but I promised my friends I’d eat tonight.
I sip the last of my hot chocolate as the pasta finally finishes. I strain it and put the sauce in with it on a new pan. This takes much less time to finish, and soon, the sauce is bubbling. I pour it into my bowl and I’m finally able to relax after a long day
